John J. Falkenberg

John J. Falkenberg, 83, a resident of Route 29 in Greenwich, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Peters Hospice in Albany.

Born April 2, 1934 in Ballston Spa, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Edna Green

Falkenberg.

Mr. Falkenberg started working at age 16 for the Oneida Market in Ballston Spa and then became store manager for the Greenwich and Bennington Oneida Markets. He went on to join Central Markets/Price Chopper in 1965,starting as frozen food clerk and retiring in 1998 as store manager.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Greenwich Cemetery Board.

He was a member, served as secretary, District Deputy, and Grand Master of Ashlar Lodge #584 F&AM in Greenwich, member and Past District Deputy Grand High Priest of Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons State of NY, long-term member of Joseph Warren Cryptic Council #37, member, Recorder and Past Commander of Calvary Commandery #69, member of Trinity Priory #5 Knights Cross of Honor, and Past Zone Commander Grand Commandery Knights Templar State of NY.

He enjoyed traveling, cross country skiing, hiking, motorcycling, and his dogs especially Lucky.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Falkenberg.

Survivors include his 2 sons, David (Melissa) Falkenberg of Highlands, NJ and Timothy (Barbara) Falkenberg of Saratoga Springs; 1 brother, William Falkenberg of Homestead, FL; 5 grandchildren, Amanda, Lindsay, Holly, Nicholas, Cassandra; 6 great grandchildren, Bella, Brennen, Tegan, Treston, Glenn, Jonathan; and 2 nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10am Thursday, April 13 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church, Gray Ave., Greenwich with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwich Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, NY 12834. The Masons will conduct their service at 6:30pm.
