Obituary of Katherine White

Katherine White, 87, a former resident of Greenwich, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Born October 27, 1927 in the Town of Stillwater, NY she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Nosal) Karp. Mrs. White was a graduate of Greenwich Central School and was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich. She had been employed as a cook at Wallie’s Restaurant until her marriage to Philip E. White on September 28, 1956. She was a wonderful wife and mother, making sure everyone was well fed with her delicious Halupsy and Apple Pies. She enjoyed fishing and betting the horses in Saratoga. She also grew beautiful flowers in her garden and her porch was filled with colorful planters of petunias and geraniums. She was the grandmother to 11, and they loved to be with their “Nanny”, as she took wonderful care of them. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was predeceased by her infant son, Dennis; 2 sisters, Rose Fryer and Anne Flynn; and 4 brothers, Peter, Wesley, Harry, and Steve Karp. Survivors include her children, Beatrice (Richard) Tefft, David White, and Lily (Timothy) Green; daughter-in-law Barbara White; her grandchildren, Jill Tefft (Ben Schultz), Jason, Luke, Sarah and Jesse Tefft, Savannah, Juliet and Shannon White, Tracy, Timothy, and Sabrina Green; 1 brother, Michael “Nick” Karp; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich.
