Obituary of Ruth I. Haley

Ruth I. Haley, 92, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Wesley Health Center surrounded by her family. Born October 28, 1922 in Ashbury Park, NJ she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Louretta Yard West Patnaude. Mrs. Haley worked for many years as a waitress at the Glass Restaurant and the Dairy Bar in Schuylerville. She was a communicant of Notre Dame-Visiation Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends in the local card club and had been a member of the Home Bureau. Ruth was a seamstress and had made many wedding gowns, prom dresses, ski parkas and had done alterations for many residents in the Schuylerville area and then later at Embury Apartments. There was no task she refused to tackle, from zippers and slipcovers, to tents and tablecloths. She also loved knitting and crocheting and made hundreds of hats, mittens, and afghans for grandchildren. True to her giving nature, when she ran out of relatives, she donated her afghans to the Injured Soldier Project. Ruth was also ingenious in her housekeeping, and was able to fix any broken drawer or household item with a hearty piece of duct tape. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Henry Mezera Jr. and Robert Haley; daughter, Jeanne Sullivan; brothers, Robert and Edward Patnaude; and sister, Jean Niles. Survivors include her children, Lois (Joseph) Bena of Alplaus, Susan Mezera (Robert Balch) of Queensbury, Elizabeth Haley of Saratoga Springs, and Cydd West of Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, May 21. 2015 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 10-11am prior to the service.
