Obituary of Joseph S. Macica

Joseph S. Macica, 91 passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Saratoga Springs on March 17, 1924, the son of Stephen and Theresa. Joseph was a communicant of the Notre Dame Visitation Church. He and Elaine (Reulet) enjoyed a 67 year marriage. He graduated from Saratoga Springs High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the First Armored Signal Battalion in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. He worked for Carroll Auto and Roth Motor as an auto mechanic, followed by 27 years as Mechanic Field Supervisor for the NY State Dept. of Transportation at Waterford. Joe had a lifelong passion for building, restoring and showing antique cars. He was a member of the Adirondack Model A Ford Club and the Plymouth Drivers Club and loved traveling to the antique car meets at Hershey, Bennington and Macungie. He was predeceased by two sisters: Josephine and Frances; three brothers: Louis, Sylvester and Andrew. Joseph is survived by his loving and caring wife Elaine (Reulet), brother Michael, sons Jules James (Barbara) and John Joseph (Jack) (Jamie), daughter Joann Helen Searles (Dennis); grandchildren Danielle Bailey (Jeremy), Elizabeth Macica, Katherine L. Macica (Benjamin Bilton), Amanda Sharrow (Grant), Marcus Lapitsky (Maria), Kara Lapitsky (fiance Jon Fox); great-grandchildren Ian, Campbell, Payton and Lucas. A special thank you to Amanda, Patty, Mary, Melinda, Karen, Robin and Hospice who took such loving care of Joe over the past years. Friends may call on Thursday, May 21 from 3-7 PM at the Flynn Brothers Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. A tandem Funeral Mass is planned at the Notre Dame Visitation Church, Pearl St., Schuylerville on Friday, May 22 at11:30 AM for Joseph and his brother Andrew who passed away earlier the same day. Interment to follow at the Saratoga National Cemetery. Family and friends will gather thereafter at the American Legion Post# 278, 6 Clancy St., Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Community Hospice of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence, Saratoga Springs 12866.
