Obituary of William O. Smith Jr.

William O. Smith Jr., 67, a resident of Franklin Beach Rd., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at his summer lakeside home in Chazy, NY. Born September 20, 1947 in Rhinebeck, NY he was the son of the late William O. and Anna May Feller Smith Sr. Mr. Smith was a 1965 graduate of Red Hook Central School and then Dutchess County Community College. He was employed at IBM for 25 years in Kingston, Fishkill and Poughkeepsie. After his retirement, he spent 20 years consulting as a SAS Administrator across the US for several Fortune 500 Companies. Bill enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, boating, and hunting. His interests included classic cars, boats, playing cards, bowling, and traveling. He continued his family tradition of harvesting and canning fresh fruits. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Bill was a gentle, kind, and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and was known for his warm hugs and generous support. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Louise A. Gilgallon Smith of Saratoga Springs; his children, Lisa M. Wall (Chris) of St. Petersburg, FL, William O. Smith III (Katie) of Wallkill, NY, and Stephanie H. Smith of Walden, NY; 4 grandchildren, Andrew T. Barone, Dylan A. Barone, Isabella M. Barone, and William O. Smith IV; 1 sister, Linda Theisen (Charlie) of Greensboro, NC; 1 brother, David Smith (Debbie) of Kingston, NY; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10am Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville with Pastor Al Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery, Stillwater. Friends may call on Friday from 6-9pm at the funeral home.
