Obituary of Edith M Howland

Edith Mary Howland, 94, a resident of Van Ness Ave., passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at her home. Born February 18, 1921 in Greenwich, she was the daughter of the late John and Harriet Babcock Hill. Edith was a lifelong Greenwich resident and was a member of the Bottskill Baptist Church. After graduation from Greenwich High School, she was employed in the payroll department of the Manhattan Shirt Co. for eight years. In 1947 she married Elton C. Howland Sr. They remained married until his death in 1994. She was also predeceased by her parents and her brother and sister Jack Hilland and Elsie Whiteside. Survivors include her children, Elton C. Howland Jr. of Greenwich; and Harriet Peterson of Montgomery Village, MD; 2 grandchildren, Sean Peterson of Bethesda, MD and Amelia Peterson of Troy, NY; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, July 29, 2015 in the Greenwich Cemetery with Rev. Sandra Spaulding, officiating. There will be no calling hours.
