Obituary of Lawrence A. Riley

Lawrence A. Riley, 87 a resident of Intervale Rd, Greenwich passed away peacefully Monday, May 2, 2016 at Evergreen Commons Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Born September, 4, 1928 in Troy, NY he was the son of the late Aloysius J. and Marguerite Lyons Riley. Lawrence attended Easton #9 School part time and St. Joseph’s Grammar School. He graduated from LaSalle Institute in 1942 and SUNY Cobleskill in 1948. On April 1, 1951 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Walker at St. Mary’s Church in Coxsackie. Lawrence was dairy farmer and was a member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department for 57 years. He was also a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and was past president. He drove school bus for 33 years for the Greenwich Central School District and was a member of the Easton Republican Committee where he served as Election Inspector for District 1. Lawrence also worked as a lift operator for many years at Willard Mountain. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Rev. John F. Riley in 2010. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Walker Riley of Easton; children, Margaret A. Riley of Hartford CT, Colleen M. Riley of Watervliet, Robert (Patricia) Riley of East Greenwich, Kathleen M. Riley of Watervliet, Patricia L. (Dan) McFee of Greenwich, and James (Suzanne) Riley of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Caitlin, Meghan and Robert Riley, James and Ashlee Riley, Danielle and Patrick McFee. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10am at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich, with the Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. . Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5 to 8pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY 12834.
