Obituary of John Dowett Jr.

John Dowett Jr., 74, a resident of Granville, passed away after a long illness, Thursday, October 20, 2016 surrounded by his family at Glens Falls Hospital. Born February 28, 1942 in Catawissa, PA he was the son of the late John and Alice Huber Dowett Sr. John grew up and went to High School in Berwick, PA. He was a graduate of Bloomsburg University where he earned his teaching degree. He taught at Herkimer County BOCES, where he met the love of his life Patricia Shepardson. They were married August 22, 1970 at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls, NY. The family moved to Granville in 1977. He taught ESL at Great Meadows Prison, and retired from there after 28 years. He was a member and former Grand Knight of Council #343 K of C in Granville, a member of the Granville Senior Citizens and was former representative in Washington County. He was a former member of St. Mary's Church in Granville, and was currently a member of St. Francis Cabrini Church in West Pawlet, VT. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 1 sister, Helen Marie Carodiskey. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patricia Dowett of Granville; his children, Amy Dowett and Julie Dowett both of Granville, John Dowett of Burlington, VT, Lisa (James) Ingber of Greenwich, Janet (Robyn) Battaile of Burlington, VT, and David Dowett of Cohoes; 1 brother, Daniel (Doris) Dowett of Harrisburg, PA; 2 sisters, Mary Ruth (Ron) Katzaman of Enola, PA and Alice Ann Hoagland of Berwick, PA; 4 grandchildren, Emily Dowett, Alexis Dowett, Faith and Ryan Ingber; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30am Saturday, October 22, 2016 at St. Joseph's Church, Greenwich, NY with Rev. Anthony Pittappillil, officiating. There are no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
