Obituary of Verdon Eugene Auman

Verdon Eugene Auman, 79, went into the arms of our Lord, December 19, 2016. Born November 22, 1937 in Yuma, CO, he was the son of the late Arlie Lyle and Adeline Spiker Auman. The family later moved to Lebenon, OR. His mother passed away when he was 2 years old. He and his brother were raised by their father and grandparents, Arthur and Hattie Spears Auman. Verdon enlisted in the Army at age 17 and served 20 years. He retired at age 37 and then when on to work for Walter Motor's Truck Company as a field service representative, traveling with their Fire Trucks to airports all over the United States and to other countries, showing people how to operate the trucks. He then worked for Atlas Copco in Voorhesville, putting together Industrial Air Compressors used to run equipment for large construction, mining, and road projects. He later went to work with his wife and operated the Brownville Inn in Gansevoort until they sold it in 1987. He then worked for NS Iron and Steel in Gansevoort and Airway Meadows Airport and Golf Course. He spent many days at his best friend Ken Rozelles garage helping to repair lawn mowers, snow blowers, cars, and tractors. His favorite things were family gatherings, spending time with friends, horseback riding, rodeo's, playing pool, golf, country music, Nascar – Terry Labonte, Green Bay Packers, the Log Jam Restaurant, preparing racing Go-Karts and cars for Justin, and his late dog Bandit. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents; Uncle Verle "Tuff" Auman. He married the love of his life, Sharon L. Butler-Smith August 14, 1982. Together they share five children, Deana Marie Auman-Kirbach (Pete) of Needham, MA, Sheri Lynne Smith of Gansevoort, Michelle Lisa Smith (Scott Dow) of Wilton, Verdon E. Auman II (Darci) of Mechanicville, and Justin Earl Smith of Gansevoort, raised and loved as a son since he was a baby; 3 grandsons, Daniel Auman (Michelle) and Kevin Auman (Alyssa), of Mechanicville, and Christan Kirbach of Needham, MA; 3 granddaughters, Maria Kirbach of Needham MA, Devon Diott of Mechanicville, and Shawna Diott of Malta; 2 great granddaughters, Caitlyn Marie and Taylor Grace Auman of Mechanicville; 4 great grandsons, Landon, Logan, Parker and Hunter of Mechanicville; his brother, Verlin Auman (Babe) of Yoncalla, OR, and Aunt Genevieve Auman of Keizer, OR. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville with Rev. Virginia Cornell, officiating. Interment will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 11-1pm at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his memory to the Gansevoort Fire Dept. or the Moreau Rescue Squad. The family would like to thank Dr. Dawson and the other doctors and nurses at Saratoga Hospital for the care given to Verdon.
