Obituary of Beatrice I. Steen

Beatrice I. Steen, a life-long resident of Easton, NY, passed away peacefully February 1, 2017 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, NY, surrounded by her loving family. “Bea” was born on Sunday, September 30, 1928 at her family’s home in Easton, NY to Helen and Birger Lundberg. She attended the one room school house in Easton and then graduated from Greenwich High School in 1944. She also attended Russell Sage Business School. In 1952 she married the love of her life, Harold J. Steen. They were married for 43 years until his passing in 1995. She loved watching sports especially her son and grandchildren’s games; she loved to root for the underdog. She was employed by many places including Fryer’s Chicken Hatchery where she delivered chickens and eggs, Greenwich School district driving school bus, and Key Bank in Clifton Park where she was the head teller. In her retirement, you would find her at the Washington County Fair Grounds working at the Grand Stand and for her brother Milton Lundberg’s Easton Trading Post where she did everything from working the grill, to waiting on customers and greeting the locals. She always could talk up a great conversation with the local farmers. She was a life-time member of the Bottskill Baptist Church in Greenwich, NY. Bea was the coach of the women’s softball team in Easton. She loved reading books, doing crosswords and word search puzzles, all kinds of music and loved to call square dancing. She was one of Steve Caporizzo’s favorite Pet Adoption stories; adopting many felines, especially “BooBoo” the three-legged cat. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a proud member of the Easton community. Bea is predeceased by her mother and father Helen and Birger Lundberg, her husband Harold, and brother Milton (Smit) Lundberg. Bea leaves behind her only child Birger O Steen (Donna Giffune) of Saratoga Springs; brother Harold Lundberg of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Kristin Steen-Mullen (Heath), Melissa Steen, Kelsey and Allison Steen along with her great-grandchildren Kaden Hall, and Reegan and Ethan Mullen; she also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her dear life-long friend Annabelle Bott. The Bain family was also very dear to Bea visiting with her often, sharing special times together. Bea joins us in thanking Judy Lundberg for her dedication and kindness over the years. Erica Lamb from Washington Center for the great care she always gave her and the thoughtful, attentive doctors and staff at Wesley Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held at 11am Friday, April 21, 2017 in the Easton Rural Cemetery, Easton, NY with Rev. Jeffrey A. Matthews officiating. Donations in Bea’s name may be made to the Saratoga Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Rd, Ballston Spa, NY, 12020. “Here’s the keys mom….let’s go home.” Online condolences and messages to the family may be made at www.flynnbrosinc.com
