Gregg Pomakoy

Obituary of Gregg Pomakoy

Gregg Pomakoy, of Thomson, NY, dear son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2017, at the home that he shared with his beloved dog Jake. He was born in Niskayuna, NY, and was a 1983 graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School. Gregg trained as a chef at Johnson and Wales College and worked in several prestigious East Coast venues before returning to upstate New York, where he became a well-known member of the Saratoga-Lake George restaurant community for over two decades. Respected as a talented chef whose art tended toward creative editions of fine American dining that always eschewed the trendy pedestrian approach of corporate establishments. Gregg enjoyed numerous rave reviews in local newspapers. Whether in the kitchen or helping a friend, Gregg possessed an inexhaustible industry matched only by a sense of humor that tended toward the mischievous. As a mentor, a friend, and a good Samaritan, he possessed a limitless reservoir of human kindness. Gregg saved his last thoughts for his dog Jake, who kept the home safe until family arrived. Gregg is survived by his mother, Betty Pomakoy, of Delmar, NY, and four siblings: Deborah Hildreth and her husband Bradley of Selkirk, NY, Leslie Hannan and her husband Brian of East Berne, NY, Mickey Pomakoy and his wife Lisa of Stephentown, NY, and Keith Pomakoy and his wife Marisha Irish-Pomakoy of Annandale, NJ. Gregg also leaves behind eight nieces and nephews and numerous dear friends. Gregg’s father, Francis (Sonny) Pomakoy passed away in 2011. A memorial service and celebration of Gregg’s life will be scheduled for a future date. Online condolences and messages to the family may be made at www.flynnbrosinc.com
