Obituary of Donald A. Young

Donald A. Young, 88, passed into the arms of our Lord, unexpectedly Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Saratoga Hospital. Born April 12, 1922 on Herkimer St. in Victory Mills, NY, he was the son of the late Peter and Victoria Seney Young. Mr. Young graduated from Schuylerville High School. He worked at his parents bakery and studied at Siena College. He joined the US Navy in 1942 and was stationed in the South Pacific on the Naval Aircraft Carrier USS Fanshaw Bay as a flight deck attendant. He married Marie Cormie September 26, 1948. He retired from General Foods in Saratoga Springs and then worked for several years as a security guard at Clifton Country Mall retiring at age 82. He owned several businesses including Day Realty and Fairco Sales. He also prepared income taxes for many years. He loved reading, gardening, eating out, and above all his grandchildren who were the source of his greatest joy. He was a devout Christian and a lifelong communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Schuylerville and Saratoga Springs and the VFW in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Marie Young; 2 sisters, Veronica Sherman and Anne Morrison; and an infant brother, Peter Henry Young. Survivors include 2 sons, Donald (Elyse) Young of Malta and Peter (Lisa) Young of Nashville, TN; 2 daughters, Donna (Timothy) Fort and Victoria Young both of Victory Mills; 8 grandchildren, Anna, Jacob, Katrina, Evan, Nathaniel and Emma Fort, Michael and Jonathan Young; 1 step grandson, Timothy (Caroline) Fort and their children Robert and Tyler; 2 sisters, Mary Saikin of Ridge, NY and Millie Rieger of Greenwich; 1 brother, Henry Peter Young of Wilton; several nieces, nephews, sister and brother-in-laws. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1pm Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-6pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. Memorials can be made in his memory to the General Schuyler Emergency Squad or David Nevins Fire Dept.
