Obituary of Edward L. Guidon

Edward L. Guidon, age 94, died May 19, 2017 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Cambridge, New York, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Guidon. He is survived by his loving wife Jane Guidon, his sister Eileen McCann, and predeceased by his sister Mary O'Dwyer and brother Thomas Guidon. He is also survived by his children, Rita Martin, Edward Guidon, Martin Guidon, Elaine Heckman, Mary Jane Guidon, John Guidon, and Katherine McGivney. In addition, Edward leaves behind his beloved grandchild, Sierra McGivney and many cherished nieces and nephews. Edward graduated from Greenwich High School in 1940. In his youth, he became an avid reader on the subjects of history and current events and remained passionate about world events throughout his life. A skilled athlete, he excelled at track, boxing, baseball, and had a great love of racecar driving. He served his country proudly in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and was a member of Eisenhower's Honor Guard. He was a founding member of the VFW in Greenwich, NY. Edward was also a chartered member of the Elks Club and an enduring member of the American Legion. Edward operated a dairy farm for 40 years and then, upon retirement, raised beef cattle late into his life. His love of the land and nature was immeasurable. A dedicated and caring husband, Edward was married to his wife, Jane, for 65 years. He remained a devoted and loving father and grandfather throughout his life. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home at 80 Main Street, in Greenwich, on Thursday, May 25, from 6 to 8 pm. A funeral mass, officiated by Fr. James Walsh, will be held Friday, May 26, at 9:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, on 36 Bleeker Street, Greenwich, NY 12834, followed by interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Elks Lodge 2223 at 130 Bulson Rd, Greenwich, NY, 12834. Edward's family would like to express their gratitude to the 4th floor Albany Memorial Hospital clinical staff, to RN Case Manager Mary Dundon for her dedicated assistance, and to Dr. Waters for his expert care.
