Obituary of Leonard Thomas Borden
Len left us on June 15 at age 88. Born on August 20th, 1928, he was the youngest child of Oscar Borden and Margaret MacCauley. Len was a lifelong resident of Easton and a fifth generation dairy and apple farmer. He graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1944. He then earned a BS degree from Cornell University in 1949. While at Cornell, he met and married Phyllis Horton.
Len is predeceased by one son, Bruce. He is also predeceased by his sister, Pearl Betts, and two brothers. Elton (Stub) Borden and Rev. James Borden.
He is survived by Phyllis and three sons: Thomas (JoAnne), Tim (Sandra), and Gary (Cindy). There are also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Always a hard-working farmer, he also found time to be active in the community. He was a past 4-H leader, a charter member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Company, a Fire Warden, and a long time member of the Easton Town Planning Board, serving as chairman for a time. Len also was a director on the board for the Easton Rural Cemetery for many years.
There will be no calling. A memorial service will be held at the Easton United Methodist Church in North Easton on June 25th from Noon to 2 PM. A short service will be followed by an informal reception with refreshments to celebrate his life. A private burial will follow.
