Eleanor Facin

Obituary of Eleanor Clare Facin

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Eleanor Clare Gabriel Facin, passed peacefully in her home on July 4, 2017 with her loving husband Joseph and her family at her side.

Ellie was born on November 28, 1937 in New Haven, CT and was the fourth child of Constantine and Bahiza Gabriel. She was predeceased by a sister, Grace.

Ellie graduated with honors from Hillhouse High School in New Haven where she excelled on the debate and basketball teams.  After high school she met the love of her life, Joseph and they were married March 17, 1956.  Her husband and children were her life and she excelled at being a mom, grandmother and great grandmother to her five sons and their children.

Ellie was a tremendous host and loved to cook her exquisite ethnic Italian and Arabic dishes; pasta with marinara sauce, grape-leaves and humus were her favorites. She was very opinionated and expressed herself by supporting the ERA and woman’s rights and the creation of Palestine as a recognized country throughout her life.  Her openness and honesty for all things will be truly missed.  She was well read and learned throughout her life taking college courses in her 50’s. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich for over 40 years.

She and her husband Joseph took a journey back to nature in 1976, moving from Connecticut to Greenwich, NY to live on an organic farm.  Their back to nature adventure was a passion of shared love of food and life as Greenwich became her newly adopted home.  Together their homestead was the central focus of family, love, learning, and laughter that was shared with family and all who visited.  Her life was lived to the fullest with each day being zestful and engaging.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Joseph of Greenwich; her sons, Joseph Jr. (Carole), Thomas (Carol), Dino (Brenda), Kenneth (Kathleen), Ron (Barb); grandchildren, Amanda, Melissa, Jordan, Kresney, Gabe (Chelsi), Andrew, Leah and Elisabeth; great grandchildren, Carmia, Cameron, Casey, Wyatt and Jayden. She is also survived by her older sister Helen Abboud and her brother Edward Gabriel.

At the request of Ellie, services will be privately held for the immediate family at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Memorials can be made in her memory to the Greenwich Rescue Squad,PO Box 84 Greenwich, NY 12834 as they have been so helpful over the past couple of months.
