Obituary of Richard E. Spiezio

Richard E. Spiezio, 75, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 26, 2017at Saratoga Center in Ballston Spa, NY with his loving family by his side.

He was born November 11, 1941 in Mineola, NY to the late Vitaliano Vincent and Gladys Guldi Spiezio.

Richard graduated from Jamaica High School in 1961, he then went on to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1961-1967.  He was a mail carrier for many years in Long Island and later worked for the Greenwich Central School for over 20 years.  Richard was a member of the Centereach Fire Department, Greenwich Fire Department, and the Greenwich Union Engine Company. He was an exceptional carpenter, building many houses including his precious log home, in which he loved spending time and watching tv with his wife and dog Bijou.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Robert Spiezio and sister Carol Suker.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Harriet Spiezio of Greenwich;  Richard’s children, Constance Smith of Saratoga Springs, and Roxanne (Thomas K.) Nabozny of Wilton; Harriet’s children Colleen (Edward) Carr, Kelly (Cathy) Barton, and Paula (Bill) Simmes; grandchildren, Clinton Jay Birdsall of Clifton Park, Ryan (Laura) Smith of London, England and Kaylin (Mike) Bessler of Westwood, NJ, Anthony (Kahla), Christy, Rachael (Steve), Samantha (Matthew), John, Heather, Meghan, Caty and Max; great-grandchildren Ethan, Rowan, and Luke.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on the first day of school, in honor of his years of service to GCS at 1pm Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 with the Rev. Keith Mann officiating

Family and friends may call from 11-1 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Graveside services are pending.

Donations in Richard’s name may be made to Greenwich Fire Department or the Cossayuna Fire Department
