Obituary of Margaret P. Hathaway

Margaret "Peg" Hathaway, 86, passed away at home Sunday surrounded by her family. Born June 26, 1931, in Cambridge, NY, Peg was the only child of the late Clarence and Hazel King. Peg graduated from Schuylerville Central School where she met her husband Bob Hathaway. Peg and Bob were married on April 12, 1953 and welcomed the first of their six children the next year. Peg was a wife, mother, and an independent woman. She attended numerous school meetings, athletic events, concerts, recitals and graduations while guiding her 6 children through high school and college, and found time to become a great cook and baker. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, spending hours along with the many other Den Mothers, organizing, teaching and guiding young cub scouts. Peg proudly wore an Eagle Scout pin earned by one of her sons. She was active in the Catholic Daughters of Americas and the Republican Women's Club and could often be heard debating the issues of the day. She worked many jobs over the years, including working at the local pharmacies in Schuylerville, until her children completed college, and then retired and spent many happy days shopping, delivering meals for Meals on Wheels, enjoying her grandchildren and hosting large gatherings of friends and family. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bob Hathaway; her children Bob (Sue) Hathaway of North Carolina, Jeffrey (Donna) Hathaway of Connecticut, Kristie Hathaway of Massachusetts, Terri (Mark) Sullivan of Schuylerville, Bill (Jenny) Hathaway of Ohio and Kelley Peluso of Schuylerville; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren (with another one expected in December 2017). A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2017 at Notre Dame Visitation Church in Schuylerville with Father Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Immediately following graveside services, family and friends are invited to join the family at the home of Peg and Bob's daughter, Kelley Peluso. Family and friends are welcome to call from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, NY 12871. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made in Peg's name to Notre Dame Visitation Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
