Obituary of Howard Goodrich Potter

Howard Goodrich Potter (1941-2017) of Schuylerville, NY passed away at his home on December 2, 2017. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Charlotte (Hagen) Potter of Glens Falls, NY and his brother Jonathan of Austin, TX.

Howard’s beloved wife, Lorraine Conoby, his cherished daughter Sarah (Lawrence) Lloyd of Wilbraham, MA, two beautiful granddaughters, Alison Jackman and Katherine Lloyd, as well as a multitude of friends deeply mourn his passing.

 Upon graduating from high school, Howard enlisted in the SEABEES in 1963, serving honorably in Vietnam until his discharge in 1967. He then attended Lincoln University.

His career was in the finance and housing industries.

 Howard met the love of his life, Lorraine Conoby, in December of 1984 and together, over more than thirty years, they cultivated a blended family of relatives, friends and shared experiences. Howard’s passion was the nurturing of his family, his friends, his pets, his flower and vegetable gardens. He was also passionate about helping others and was a donor to so many causes, if only at the rate of $5.00 per month. He lived by a simple standard: “To help others is to love and to be loved.”

His wide circle of friends cherished him for his genuine concern for them, for his loyalty and compassion, his big heart, his anger at injustice, his wide ranging interests from wine to the Quakers, to real estate, to politics, to world events that meant conversations with him were always lively and never dull. He will be so deeply and sorely missed.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at the National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. Howard’s family invites his friends to honor his life at the burial service. Please join them at site.
