Obituary of Alex Silber

Alex (Aisik) Silber passed away on December 31, 2017. Alex was predeceased by his wife of 64 years of marriage, Margaret (Hollinger). He was born April 1920 in Chelm Poland to Iser and Rachela Silber. Alex, a Holocaust survivor is also predeceased by three sisters, Chaja, Fela, Sara and a brother, David and his mother Rachela (Fruchtbaum) all victims of the Holocaust. Alex's father Iser, also a survivor is buried in Israel. Alex immigrated to the United States in 1951 with his wife and daughter. Alex was a devoted husband and father to his surviving children Renee A Silber and her husband Bill Washburn of Corinth NY and David Silber and his wife, Tracy of Clayton NC. He is survived by three grandsons Eli, Christopher and Michael who were the joy of his life and as he often stated, "the reason I survived". He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family through his marriage. His fifty years of residing in Garfield and Elberon gave him and his family many happy memories of life in the Jersey shore area. Alex lived in NJ until 2003 when he moved to Albany with his wife. He enjoyed and took great pride in his life's work as a tinsmith and loved sharing stories of climbing on roofs and working with copper. He also found pleasure in traveling, the mountains of Austria, music and dancing. He was especially proud to be the recipient of the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
