Obituary of Kenneth Tracy

Kenneth R. Tracy Sr., 94, a longtime Greenwich resident, passed away Monday (October 4, 2010) at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Facility following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Grace (Rose) Tracy. Born May 4, 1916 in Wilmington, VT, he was the son of Charles and Mabel (Shepardson) Tracy. Ken served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a bomb disposal specialist. After the war he started his own trucking company, his motto was “You call, we haul”. In 1956 he started his sand and gravel plant, he later added ready mix concrete and the company name of “Greenwich Ready Mix, Inc.” After retirement he enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter months. His favorite pastimes were visiting with friends and family, operating his bulldozer and visiting his favorite restaurants. He was a member of Greenwich VFW and American Legion. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers; Howard and Arthur, sisters; Martha Greene and Katherine Briggs. In addition to his wife Grace of 69 years, he is survived by five children; Katherine Burkhead and her husband Frank of Lincoln, CA, Kenneth R. Tracy Jr. and his wife Carol of Greenwich, Charles R. Tracy and his wife Katherine of Greenwich, Diane F. Tracy of Melbourne, FL and R. Scott Tracy and his wife Lori of Greenwich; 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A service with military honors will be held at 10AM Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, with Rev. Keith Mann officiating. Family and friends may call at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM. Following the service Thursday, family and friends are invited to gather at Prestwick Chase, 147 Saratoga Blvd., Saratoga Springs.
