Bruce K Wright, formerly of Easton, passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 95. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Wright, by his sister Janet Nelson, his wife Joan L Wright and his daughter-in-law Judy Wright. Bruce is survived by his four children, sons Mark Wright, Nate (Sherri) Wright, Andrew (Mary Ann) Wright, and daughter Martha (Michele) Turchetti- Wright, his grandchildren Zeke Wright, Emily Wright, Michael Wright, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He leaves behind many friends who loved to chat and tell stories as he did about the many adventures in his life.
Most recently a beef farmer and all around “fix-it” kind of guy, Bruce had an AAS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Alfred State College. Bruce met his future wife while in high school in, NJ with Joan attending a neighboring school. They were married in Feb 1952.
After graduation Bruce served in the US Army during Korea as army ordinance, stationed in Germany. Bruce’s wife Joan traveled to Germany to be with him for part of his time there, where his first son Mark was born. Upon returning home, they lived in Berkshire Valley, NJ. Bruce worked with Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ as a technician, developing underwater telecommunications cables. During this time, the family grew with the birth of two more sons, Nathan & amp; Andrew. The next adventure was when Bruce and his family moved to Waterville, NY to work with his brother, Robert (Bob), at Williams Steel Wheel & Rim of Utica. The fourth sibling, Martha was born in 1966. The Williams Steel Wheel & Rim company expanded to Kentland Indiana in 1968, where Bruce & his family moved and stayed until 1971. Moving back to NY, with a short stay in Cambridge, Bruce, Joan and family settled onto their farm, in Easton NY. There, Arboria Acres was started as a small cow-calf beef operation. The Wright’s participated in the Washington County Fair showing cattle for 17 years.
Bruce retired from the Watervliet Arsenal and turned to farming full time along with helping many neighbors, local farmers & friends with welding repairs, manufacturing farm parts and building projects. He was a mastermind of fixing anything mechanical. He also built farm barns, sheds and even, after a fire that claimed their house in 2015, his own home residence in Easton. He had experience with building houses as he had built his first house, when he was much younger, while living in NJ. Bruce was a member in the Horseless Carriage Club and known for remanufacturing antique Chevrolet car parts – as featured in Hemmings News with his longtime friend, Dave Wiltsey. Their work together was often sought after, with Bruce one of a very few across the US who could rebuild those early automobile ignition distributors from vehicles produced prior to 1916. Bruce and Joan were married for 72 years before Joan’s passing in December 2024 at the age of 92.
Joan loved working in her gardens, where she early on would enter blooms in the local flower club competitions. She was a rug hooker where she made beautiful area rugs, wall hangings and chair covers. Early in her work life, Joan worked long hours in the woolen mills, then as a mother of four, to part-time work at Glens Falls greenhouse, Garden Time. She was a ski lift operator for years, on the top of the mountain, at Willard Ski area in Easton, NY. She loved visits from friends and family, sitting around the kitchen table, drinking coffee and just talking about anything and everything. She had a quirky sense of humor with a smile and laugh that would beam back to you. Later in life, when she was not able to be outside in her gardens, Joan went to color pencil artwork, completing hundreds of pictures with intricate designs and colors. She was always
creative & loved to decorate for each season. Bruce and Joan Wright are and will always be missed, however all who knew them have stories
to remember, about a multitude of antics from early years to farming with cows ever
misbehaving.
