Greenwich, New York
Clark W. “Poppy” Mattison, 86, of Greenwich, New York, passed away on September 8, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Clark was born on January 20, 1940, in Hebron, New York, the beloved son of Leroy and Ruth Mattison. He was one of 9 children, Earl, Harold, Richard, Bruce, John, Glen, Gail and Linda, born to Leroy and Ruth. Clark grew up with strong family values and a love for the land that would remain an important part of his life for many years.
On March 18, 1957, Clark married the love of his life, Patricia Marie Trombley. Together, they shared nearly seven decades of marriage, building a beautiful life centered around their family. They raised their three children, Clark “Clarkie,” Barbara Jean, and John, on their dairy farm on Riley Hill Road in Salem, where hard work, family, and togetherness were simply a way of life.
Clark was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing and caring for his family. Farming was more than a livelihood to him—it was a life he shared with Patricia and their children, filled with long days, dedication, and countless memories that his family will carry with them forever.
After leaving farming in the 1980s, Clark and Patricia relocated to Greenwich, New York, where he began a new chapter of his working life with the Fort Miller Company. He remained there until his retirement. Clark was also a dedicated member of the Middle Falls Fire Department, giving his time and service to his community.
While Clark accomplished much throughout his life, his greatest pride was always his family. To those who knew him as a husband and father, he was a steady and loving presence. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as “Poppy”. That name represented so much more than a grandfather—it represented a source of love, comfort, wisdom, laughter, and countless treasured memories. The love his grandchildren had for him, and the love he had for them, was something truly special.
Clark's greatest legacy will not be measured by the years he worked, the farm he tended, or the land he hunted, but by the family he loved and the lives he touched. His absence will leave an immeasurable emptiness, but the love he gave so freely will remain with his family forever. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who were fortunate enough to call him husband, father, grandfather, family, and friend.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Patricia, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. A graveside burial and service will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 11 am at the Greenwich Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Those wishing to honor Clark can send floral arrangements to Flynn Bros. Funeral Home in Greenwich, New York prior to the burial service.
Rest peacefully, Poppy. You were deeply loved, endlessly cherished, and will never be forgotten.
