Dorothy Irene Filer Obituary (1937 - 2025)

With a heart full of cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Dorothy Irene Filer who was born on the 22nd of July 1937. Dorothy graced this world with her vibrant spirit for 88 beautiful years until her passing on December 22, 2025. Born Dorothy Morrison, she spent most of her life in Greenwich Throughout her life, Dorothy's vivacious character was matched by an equally impressive work ethic. While her children were growing up, she would play the organ at the East Greenwich Presbyterian Church every Sunday. She dedicated many years to the Golden Fleece Papermill until working and retiring from food service at Greenwich Central School, where she worked for over 20 years. She took pride in enriching every student's life that she encountered at school. While at school she served as the Greenwich Cheerleading Advisor. Dorothy loved socializing with everyone, and she brought joy and nourishment to those around her. Dorothy was a member of the Greenwich Elks Ladie's Auxiliary, where she made several special friends. Following her retirement from school, she went to work for Stewart's in Salem. She always told things the way they were, never holding anything back. During the winter months she would winter in Dade City, Florida, where she enjoyed attending Sea World, Disney World, and enjoying the ocean. Dorothy was a beloved mother to Joseph (Beverly) Filer of Texas, Kathy Filer of Greenwich, Lou Ann Leach of Clifton Park, Gerald Filer Jr., of Greenwich, Lori Filer of Greenwich, and John Filer of Granville; grandchildren, Jaime, Michael Leach, Jeremy (Jennifer) Gillis, Britany (Matthew) Sargeant, Matthew Roberts, Kathryn Filer, Christina Filer, and Jason Mead; 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and special friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Kathryn (Clark) Morrison, her loving husband of 30 years, Gerald O. Filer Sr.; brothers, Howard Morrison and his wife Sharon, John Wayne Morrison and William Filer and his wife Alma; and granddaughter Marisa Filer. As we remember Dorothy, let us celebrate her life, her love, and her profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her. Spring burial will be held in Greenwich Cemetery.
