With a bountiful spirit of love and compassion, Honora M. Hatfield, 84, was a beacon of kindness that illuminated the lives of all who knew her. Born on December 7, 1940, in Bellows Falls, Vermont, Honora lived a life that can only be described as thoughtful and dedicated, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a beloved sister, a cherished aunt, and an adored teacher who made an indelible mark on the lives of many.
Honora, affectionately known by her students as Miss Hatfield, was a remarkable woman whose passion for teaching was unmistakable. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and later earned a master's degree from SUNY Albany. A resident of Greenwich, NY, she served as an elementary teacher for 38 years at Greenwich Central School before retiring. Her commitment to her students was unparalleled, and she was renowned for her ability to inspire and nurture young minds. What mattered most to Honora was her career as a teacher and being a kind person.
She embodied the verse from Matthew 5:16 in her daily life, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Honora is survived by her dear niece, Colleen (Johnson) Canedy of New Hampshire.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Hatfield; father, Hugh Gordon Hatfield and sister, Ann Canedy.
Her loss leaves an immeasurable void, but her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, compassion, and love.
Graveside services for Honora, will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in the Saxton River Cemetery, Vermont.
