John J. Grimes

John J. Grimes, a long-time resident of Ferry Street, passed away peacefully Monday, September 13, 2021.

Born February 16, 1928 in Easton, New York he was the son of the late Helen Grimes.

John retired from Stevens and Thompson Paper Manufacturing after 40 years, where he met and then married the beautiful Carmela (Falsone) Grimes on April 16, 1949.

Mr. Grimes was a communicant of Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville where he faithfully attended mass every Saturday. He was a long-time member of the White Creek Valley Game Club and an Honorary Member of the Schuyler Hose Company.

John enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, hunting, western movies, playing cards and most of all, taking walks with his dog. John was a very kind-hearted man who was always willing to help others. His smile and laughter will be greatly missed.

John was predeceased by his wife Carmella J. Grimes who passed away June 1994 and also by his furry companion Bubba.

Survivors include his son John P. Grimes (Debra) of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three nephews, a niece, and his furry companion Oliver.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, 18 Pearl St., Schuylerville with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A reception will follow at the American Legion Hall, Clancy St., Schuylerville.
