Lewis H. Bowers III

–

Cambridge, New York

Lewis H. Bowers III was born on January 5th, 1940, to the late Lewis H. Bowers II and Jennie M. Mitchell in Pensacola, Florida, while his father was commissioned there for the US Navy. Lewis and his family came to reside in Scotia, NY after his father’s military service ended.

Lewis was the eldest of 5 children in addition to his parents; he was predeceased by his brother Stewart Bowers. He is survived by his brother, John Bowers and his twin sisters Helen Craver and Jean Paparella.

In high school Lewis was actively involved in sports running cross country, playing basketball, and baseball. Once graduating from Scotia-Glenville schools Lewis served in the US Army and later attended SUNY Albany where he received his degree in Chemistry. Upon graduating Lewis met the love of his life, Alice (Bolt) Bowers and married, having almost 50 years of marriage including the birth of one child, Nicole Bowers-Dixson. Lewis had a long and successful career at Schenectady International (SI Group) as a production site manager then later in sales. When he wasn’t working Lewis enjoyed running, hiking, fly-fishing, and golf. The highlight of which was a yearly fly-fishing trip to the St. Regis where he would enjoy music by the campfire and the company of friends with fishing stories often unaccompanied by actual fish.

Lewis’ favorite role perhaps was that of grandfather to his three grandchildren Hunter Dixson (Maizie Steele), MacKenzie Dixson and Samuel Dixson. He was always available to babysit and spoil them with ice cream and other treats. However, the most memorable times were spent with the entire family in Cape Cod swimming in the sea, building sandcastles and scouring the shores for sea glass.

Lewis also enjoyed time with his brothers and sister in laws and many nieces and nephews fishing, playing cards, and sharing a nice meal together. Lewis will always be remembered for his love of friends and family, cutthroat pinochle playing, but most memorably his daily devotion to his wife Alice, who he now joins in heaven after a decade of waiting to see her again.

Family and friends are invited to attend his graveside services with full military honors at 2:30 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Gerald BH. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871.
