Schuylerville, New York
Paul Galcik passed away on Thursday May 8th, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Paul was a lifelong resident of the Schuylerville Community, where he raised his family, lived, and worked for the people of his community.
Born on July 15th, 1943, on the family farm to John and Rose Galcik, Paul developed a love for the outdoors at a very young age. His many mentors throughout the years taught him how to hunt and fish. Paul shared this passion with his wife later in life and then his children and grandchildren.
Paul began his education at St. Clements in Saratoga and then came to the newly built Schuylerville High School where he graduated in 1961. The lifelong friendships that he had formed with his classmates continued to the day he passed. Paul enjoyed the kinship of his classmates and reminiscing through phone calls, emails, and luncheons.
After graduation, Paul worked for a brief time at the Saratoga Racecourse and General Foods before beginning his next chapter in life. In June of 1967, Paul graduated from the New York State Police Academy and began his 32-year journey of service to the people of New York State. Paul was a very stern and straightforward Trooper. Things in life were rendered down, to what was quite simply right and wrong. He always worked for the victims. Because of this devotion he earned the respect of his co-workers, the people he protected and his family. In 1977 Paul was appointed an Investigator with the State Police, where he continued to serve the remainder of his career until retiring in 1999. Always treating people the way, you want them to treat you was a constant theme of his life.
On October 9, 1965, Paul married the love of his life Joyce (Tracy) Galcik. Together they lived a full and happy life. Many days were spent together, working around the home and later in life travelling. The best of times for both were the summers they spent at Glen Lake relaxing and enjoying time on the water, or around the camp with family and friends.
Paul and Joyce also enjoyed their time spent on Long Lake in the Adirondacks. Paul was very involved in shooting sports and the continuation of youth shooting sports in the community.
Paul was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Joyce in 2022. He is survived by his children Deborah (Duane) Taylor of South Glens Falls, Michael (Karen) Galcik of Schuylerville and Bridgette (Michael) Schwerd of Schuylerville. Of all that was good in Paul’s life, nothing compared to the joy and pride he got from his grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zachary Galcik and Brooke and William Michael Schwerd, who affectionately knew him as “pal”. Paul was never at a loss for words when anyone asked him about his grandchildren. Paul is also survived by his aunt Anna Bolt of New Jersey. His brother and sister-in-law, William and Vicki Galcik of Saratoga Springs. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his immediate family, Paul was also keenly aware of the lifelong friends that remain and those that have passed. He specifically asks that each and every one of you who read this, to know that he thanks you for that friendship. His final request was that at some point, you just raise a glass to the sky and bid him a final farewell in your heart, for making his life better.
Per Paul’s explicit instructions to his family, services will be private.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude and thanks to the workers of Saratoga Community Hospice, who made dad’s final days bearable and dignified. Also, the New York State Police family, who were always there for Paul’s family, whenever they were needed.
