Greenwich, New York
Richard A. Stiles, 78, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, following a brief illness, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 22, 1947, in Albany, NY, to the late Lee and Dorothy (Burgess) Stiles.
Richard was proud to call Greenwich, New York his home and was a beloved figure in his community, known for his unwavering kindness and generosity. He was an ever-dedicated husband to his wife, Peggy, with whom he shared 56 beautiful years of marriage. They first encountered one another at a beach party in Greenwich, an encounter that blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Richard was a man of action, always on the move and "puttering" around. He had a passion for classic cars especially his 1956 Chevy Bellair. He was a lover of baseball and a loyal supporter of the NY Yankees. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son Rich Jr. and throwing a softball and talking about family history with his daughter Stacy. Richard was an animal lover, and he had many good times with his beloved lab Garth.
He cherished the yearly family vacations to Chincoteague Island. Richard was the best Papa ever, always supporting his grandchildren's events and accomplishments. Richard was a kind, caring, generous man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Richard's love for life was infectious, his dry sense of humor always lightened the mood, and his caring nature made him a beacon of support for his family and community. His patriotic spirit led him to serve in the United States Army as a Sergeant in Radio Communication, during the Korean Conflict, a service he was deeply proud of. He was also a member of the Rough and Ready Engine Company #2 and the Greenwich VFW, where he was always eager to help any way, he could.
Richard's biggest joy in life was his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Peggy (Kirk) Stiles; children, Rich Jr. (Jessica) Stiles and Stacy (Tim) Brophy; grandchildren Jackson, Paisley, Madelyn, and Bradley; brother and sisters-in-law, John, Patty and Pam; friends who were always there for him, Sammy, Art, and Roger; his garage crew, and John St Gang; several nieces and nephews, as well as his sisters, Marie Troy and Elizabeth McQueen.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Robert and Paul Kirk (Uncle Paul), who he spent many special times with.
