Robert W. "Skipper" Drew Sr. Obituary (2015)

Robert W. "Skipper" Drew Sr., 72, a former Schuylerville resident, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the NYS Veterans Home in Montrose, NY. Mr. Drew was born April 15, 1943 in Saratoga Springs and was the son of the late John and Lillian Wood Drew. He was a US Navy Veteran having served in Vietnam. He retired as E6 1st Class Bos'n Mate from the US Navy where he worked security at the Navy Yard in Portsmouth, NH. He and his brother Joseph Drew served together aboard the USS FDR CVA42 for four years. He earned his GED while in the service as well as several service accommodations. He was a member of the 40 & 8 in New Hampshire. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Alberta Davis and Kathleen Lant; and brothers, Malcolm, Charles, John and Francis "Holly" Drew. Survivors include his son, Robert W. Drew Jr. (Beverly Dawn); 2 grandchildren, Brent Christopher Stark and Heather Marie Stark; his former wife, Candice L. Sampson, all of New Hampshire; brothers, Thomas Drew of Victory Mills, Joseph (Carol) Drew of Greenwich; and sister, Yvonne Drew of Schuylerville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 10am Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. A reception will follow the service at the American Legion, Clancy St., Schuylerville. Memorials can be made in his memory to a local Veteran organization.
