Sheila A. Merchant Obituary (1938 - 2015)

Sheila A. Merchant, 77, a resident of Rugg Rd., passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Born February 5, 1938 in Glens Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Marjorie Sweet Deyoe. Sheila met her husband of 59 years, Charles L. Merchant at her father's dairy farm where he stopped for coffee. Together they raised their 7 children and ran the Merchant Lea Dairy Farm. She was a graduate of Schuylerville Central School and retired from the Wilton Developmental Center where she had been employed for 10 years. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, traveling and doing volunteer work. She enjoyed spending time with her family and helping to raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Gary Deyoe. Survivors include her husband Charles L. Merchant; her children, Marjorie (Raymond) Abbott; Joanne Killian, Larry (Kris) Merchant, Carole Merchant, Jim (Judi) Merchant, Leslie (Robert) Max, and Brian (Heather) Merchant; grandchildren, Andrew and Adam Abbott, Joseph and Sadie Killian, Charles and Lindsey Merchant, Jennifer Foote, Chad DeGregory, Ashley Jones, Jonathan and Jason Merchant, Mariah and Caleb Max, Lawton, Sydney, and Kya Merchant; great grandchildren, Alexander Abbott, Dani Rae Fowler, Joseph Gabriel, Alexandria Killian, Helena and Dahlia Merchant, Quinton Seymour, Ivy Brockway, Jacoby Merchant, Beau James Merchant and Baby Boy Jones arriving soon; 2 brothers, William and Charles Deyoe; 1 sister, Peggy Greene; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 9:30am Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, Route 32N, with Rev. Janet Vincent officiating. Burial will be in the Bacon Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow the services at the Greenwich VFW. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. Memorials can be made in her memory to the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, 560 Route 32N, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
