It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Frances Nolan, on Monday September 21, 2026. Susan was a beacon of strength, love and generosity, known for her unfiltered honesty and inspiring resilience. As the backbone of her family, she was a true one-of-a-kind soul, and her love for the ones closest knew no bounds.
Susan owned and operated a Greenwich staple, The Hot Dog Express, where she was known for her famous meat sauce and “dogs with the works”. She made many life-lasting friendships and relationships with our little town through her journey as one of the best lunch spots in town. As life moved on, she found herself as a medical receptionist at The Greenwich Family Health Center, where her compassion and dedication were shown through every interaction. She “retired” in 2024, but somehow never stopped working. She went on to work at a local daycare, took on respite work as a caregiver, she loved her Rita and Betty, and worked almost 7 days a week until her illness. She was not only a workhorse, but also a passionate fan of the “Mini Mini” Minnesota Vikings, she made it to Mardi Gras with her cousin Allan (Kathryn) and got her beads, had many trips along the way that she loved to talk about,
She loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports and rarely missed a game. Sunday family dinners were also something she looked forward to too. She had many memorable adventures with close friends and left lasting impressions and laughs that will never be forgotten. She cherished her yearly “girls’ trip” to places like Sleepy Hollow, Salem, Cape cod, and Rhode Island. Room 12 and her yearly family trip to Old Orchard Beach was something she demanded be done. She enjoyed her Bunko girls and gatherings, dinner dates with Kenny to The Charleton Tavern, trips to Indian Lake and her occasional strawberry daiquiri or kalua and milk. Susan spent her summers Tractor pulling with her significant other, Kenneth who let her beat all the men with his John Deere 420. They occasionally had “guest” pullers on their adventures, having her two boys Dana and Logan follow along on her hobby was something she held close to her heart. In between her busy work life, she devoted her time to her family and friends. She was at every family gathering, birthday, celebration, and holiday. Specifically, her Christmas Eve tradition with Kali and her children, and holidays on Bleeker St, brought her so much joy.
Susans biggest accomplishments in life were her family. She was always a phone call away and gave the best honest advice for anything. The love for her “babies” Bowen and Remington will always live on. Her external love for her mother Edna Louise (Wallace, Brophy) Lamb, her father’s Charles Brophy and George Lamb, grandparents Robert R. and Caroline (Akin) Wallace, and her uncle William “Billy” Wallace was profound and deep- seated.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, a beacon for her loved ones in this time of darkness. She didn’t want anyone to be “sad” she wanted you to remember how much she loved you and all the good times. However, it was her love of her family that came through best. Susan is survived by her partner of 21 years, Kenneth Hill; her children Wendy Nolan, Taralyn Nolan and Dana Nolan; her Grandchildren Kali (Carmelo), Paige, Arianna (Bradley), Chase, Logan, Jaidan, Travis, Averi and Nova; great grandchildren Bowen and Remington who were the loves of her life; siblings, Pete (Debbie) Brophy, Dianne (Joe) Disarno, Timothy (Stacy) Brophy; nieces and nephews, Scott (Dawn), Craig (Margaret) and Teddy Spiezio. Jenna (Nick) and their children Annalynn and Aubree, Jimmy (Cheyanne) and their children Malia, Atticus, and Presley, Madelyn, Bradley (Hannah), along with all the ones who called her “Grandma Sue”. Her special friends, Michelle, Peaches, Susie, Sherrie, Lisa, Marge, Amy, Suzanne, Kim Fitzgerald, Heidi, and so many others.
Our family would like to give a very special and heartfelt thank you to Jenna for her care, advice, and dedication to not only Susan, but her family as well over the last few months. We couldn’t have gotten through this without her, and it did not, and continues to not go unnoticed.
