William Godfrey

–

Greenwich, New York

William Edward "Bill" Godfrey, known affectionately as Bill, was born on November 10, 1940, in Glens Falls, NY, to the late Edwin and Florence (Keech) Godfrey. He lived his 83 years of life with vivacity and an unwavering spirit of resilience that touched everyone he encountered. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all". For William, adventure was his heartbeat, his passion, and the driving force that shaped his life.

In his younger days, William had a need for speed that was perfectly matched with his beloved '68 Ford Galaxy 500 Convertible. He was a hard worker, spending his career in Local Union #157, doing construction, where his work ethic was admired by many. William was a devoted fan of westerns, wrestling, NFL football, and NASCAR, with Rusty Wallace being his favorite driver. His love for these sports was only surpassed by his love for his family, cats, and his late wife, Linda, whom he would drive fast or hitchhike miles down I-95, just to see.

William was a proud Marine, and he carried that mentality with him throughout his life. His dedication to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his children, Sherry (Randy), Stacey (Aaron Schies), and William D. (April) Godfrey; his grandchildren, Edward (Nicole) Godfrey, Andy (Lily) Baldewicz, and Matthew (Rosie) Godfrey; and his great-grandchildren, Jack and Alexis Godfrey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 54 years, Linda (Simon) Godfrey; daughter, Sandra Godfrey; brother, Edwin Godfrey Jr.; several brother in-laws, sisters-in-law and his beloved cat Matuchet.

He will be remembered as a man who lived life for others, full of hard work, love, and dedication.
