Obituary of Virginia R. Spiezio

Virginia R. Spiezio, 85, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Facility in Argyle. Born at Vly Summit on February 1, 1925, she was the daughter of Edwin J. Hill and Una Brown Austin. Virginia was employed at the Reilly Co. in Greenwich until it closed. She then worked at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs until her retirement in 1990. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was especially devoted to her great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Bill McLaren, her former husband Gene Spiezio and three step brothers; Bill, Don and Gordon Austin. Surviving is her daughter Ginny McLaren, her son Buzz (Beth) Spiezio, both of Greenwich, her grandchildren; Beth (Kevin) Hazzard of Woburn, MA, Amy (George) Bassett of Morrison, CO, and Michael (Jessica Golden) Spiezio of Saratoga Springs, NY. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; Cole, Sam and Maya Bassett, and Megan and Abby Hazzard, her special cousin Nancy Spiezio, brother-in-law Harold (Doris) Spiezio Sr., sister-in-law Pat Ivanoff and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7PM Friday December 10, 2010 at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. Family and friends may call form 5PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials in her name may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, Greenwich, The Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, PO Box 84, Greenwich, NY 12834, or a charity of one’s choice.
