Obituary of Herbert G. McGrouty

Herbert G. McGrouty, 88, a resident of 59 Gray Ave. died Friday December 31, 2010 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Facility, Argyle. Born in Greenwich April 15, 1922 he was the son of Herbert T. and Flora Gates McGrouty. Herb was a graduate of Greenwich Central School and served in the US Navy during WWII from 1942 until 1947. He was an employee of Niagara Mohawk Power Company, retiring after 37 years as a Hot Stick line foreman. Herb was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenwich, a member of Liberty Post 515 American Legion and VFW Post 7291 of Greenwich and a member of Battenkill Country Club. He was an avid fan of area high school sports. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two sons; Stephen McGrouty in 1971 and Timothy McGrouty in 1975, and his sister, Bernice DeLuca. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Hannah Wilson McGrouty of Greenwich, one niece Michelle Bashant of Mahopac, NY and one nephew Thomas DeLuca of Orlando, FL. Also surviving are two nieces; Patricia Abbott Perkins and Kelly Wilson Johnson and two nephews Raymond Abbott and William Wilson, as well as three grandnieces; Amy McPhail, Julie Mosher and Jill Autiello, and two grandnephews Andrew and Adam Abbott. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the North Cambridge (Stump) Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorials in his name may be made to the Greenwich Athletic Association, c/o Greenwich Central School, Greenwich, NY 12834.
