Obituary of James Peters Sr.

James Joseph Peters, Sr., of Pearl St., Schuylerville, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. BornVincenzo Giuseppe Pietrantonio on May 15, 1917 in Schuylerville, he attended Schuylerville Central School and the Rochester Institute of Technology. He was employed for a tool company in Elmira, the Watervliet Arsenal, Pittsfield General Electric and then Schenectady GE where he worked for 33 years as the manager of quality control in Steam Turbine. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and had been past Grand Knight five times. He was awarded an Appreciation Medal in 2009 for 73 years of distinguished service that he was very proud of. Jim loved politics and was an avid reader of five newspapers daily. He was a former Democratic Committeeman from Saratoga County. A loving father, Jim’s carpentry skills were always called upon by his children and he worked in all of their homes over the years. A consummate gardener, he started all his vegetable plants from seeds in early spring and followed through with canning and freezing in autumn. His hobbies also included fishing and cooking. He had numerous cookbooks and enjoyed cooking for his family. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Agnes (Gruner) Peters; his parents, Emilio and Rose Peters; and his brother John (Olive) Peters of Schenectady. He leaves behind his children, Ann Marie Wright, James Jr. (Sandra), and Patricia Joan Peters; his sister, Marie Peters; 6 grandchildren, Jason Wright, Bryan Clute, Shalyn (Kenneth) Campellone, James Peters III, Jaclyn (David) Dobert, and Kelly Peters; 3 great grandchildren, Jonathan Clute, Aurora Dobert, and Kara Campellone. Jim wanted to thank one special niece, Margie (Ed) Sanders, who visited him weekly during his long illness. The family would like to thank Saratoga Cardiology, Drs. Rachid Daoui, Thomas Klepetar, Ellen Cosgrove, and the Hospice Community for the expert care they gave Jim over the years. Also a very special thank you to Dr. Kevin Costello for the many home visits administered to him. We would like to thank Father Marty Fisher, Jack and Marion Ditch for their spiritual guidance. Lastly, we would like to thank Donna DeLuca, Ruth Miner-Cooney, and Margaret Putnam. With the devoted and loving care they gave our father, it allowed him to remain home with us. We are eternally grateful to them. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday, March29, 2011 at Notre Dame-Visitation Church, with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville. The Knights of Columbus will meet at 5pm. Memorials can be made in his memory to Notre Dame-Visitation Church, 18 Pearl St., Schuylerville, NY or the General Schuyler Emergency Squad, PO Box 111, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
