Obituary of Peggy J. Fifield

Peggy Allen Fifield, of Greenwich, NY, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Born December 23, 1940 in Easton, NY she was the daughter of the late Ruth and Clayton Allen. Peggy was a 1958 graduate of Greenwich Central School and was employed by Washington County at Pleasant Valley Nursing Facility for the past 21 years, serving 16 years as Administrative Secretary. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was a GAA softball coach for 20 years, and was past member of the GAA Board. She was also a past member of the Greenwich Athletic Booster Club, serving as secretary and president, a past member and president of St. Joseph’s Hospitality Committee and a past member of the Friends of the Greenwich Library. Peggy’s favorite hobby was reading. She liked sports and was an avid New York Mets fan for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, but the loves of her life were her grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Gary Townsend of Glens Falls, Jonathan (Robin) Fifield of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Michelle Townsend (Michael) Schreiner of Greenwich and Jana Fifield (John) Solan of Greenwich; five grandchildren, Bryan Townsend of Queensbury, Michael, Tyler and Sarah Schreiner of Greenwich, and Isabelle Solan of Greenwich; two step-grandchildren, Michael(Mickensie) Wescott of Warrensburg and Nastassia Wescott of Plattsburgh; two step-great grandchildren, Saige and Jacy Wescott of Warrensburg; one brother, Terry (Cathy) Allen; one uncle; one niece, one nephew, one great niece and two great nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10am Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Greenwich with Rev. David Kelly and Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwich Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at Flynn Bros. Inc., Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich. Memorials can be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church Building Fund or to Washington County Hospice. The family would like to give special thanks to Leisha and Sherrill and the Hospice Staff for their love and care for our mother when it meant the most.
