Obituary of Daniel Brophy Jr.

Daniel E. Brophy Jr., 54, formerly of Greenwich and a resident of Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, died Wednesday May 18, 2011 at Saratoga Hospital. Born September 14, 1956 a son of the late Daniel E. and Mary (Cary) Brophy Sr., Daniel graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1977. He was employed by Stevens and Thompson Paper Co. from 1977 until 1996 when an accident left him a paraplegic. Despite his limitations, Dan always kept a positive outlook and had a smile and joke for everyone. He enjoyed dirt biking and four-wheeling before his accident. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing, the Boston Celtics, Pittsburgh Steelers and his beloved NY Yankees. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister Letha Purdy. Surviving is one brother, Allan C. (Kathryn) Brophy of Lafayette, LA; Two sisters, Elysabeth (Buzz) Spiezio of Greenwich and Eileen (Martin) Rogers of Cossayuna; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 1pm Wednesday May 25, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Greenwich, with Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. There will be no calling hours. Memorials are suggested to the Wesley Health Care Center, 131 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or to St. Joseph’s Church, Greenwich. The family would like to thank the Saratoga Hospital ICU staff for their excellent care and support. A very special thank you to Roxanne Ranson, Dan’s nurse-practioner and the Wesley Health Care Center staff on 4 Springs who became like family to Dan.
