Obituary of Matilda M. MacGeorge

Matilda M. MacGeorge, 92, formerly of Schuylerville, NY passed into the arms of the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Indian River Nursing Home with her daughter Gwyn MacGeorge and son-in-law Stephen Skoczylas at her side. Born September 28, 1918, she was the youngest child of Adam and Tekla Birnbach. She was raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Richmond Hill High School and attended The Parsons School of Design. Matilda married Douglas E. MacGeorge on October 25, 1940. They had one daughter, Gwyn. Matilda was internationally known for her handwoven authentic Scottish Tartan throws and has had her work displayed at CONVERGENCE, the International Weaver’s Conference. She has been published in several weaver’s magazines and most recently in an Interweave E-Book. She was a founding member of the Rock Day Spinners and the Hudson-Mohawk Weavers Guild. Matilda enjoyed all phases of needlecraft, her prolific strawberry patch, and spending time with her loving family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from 4-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9am Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church, Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
