Obituary of Gerald Thomas Miller

Gerald Thomas “Tom” Miller, 68, a former resident of Hessian Drive, Schuylerville, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs. Born February 3, 1943 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Christopher Gerald “Bud” Miller and Katherine “Kathleen” Mullen Miller. Tom retired from the United States Postal Service after 20 years of service as a Postal Clerk and Carrier and from the Saratoga Harness Race Track after 30 years of service as the Assistant Director of Mutuels. He was also a manager of Embury Apartments for 8 years, an Assistant Cashier at the Glens Falls National Bank of Schuylerville for 11 years, and worked for the Saratoga Flat Track. For several years he was a Notary Public and he was proud of being a three-gallon blood donor. The things that Tom enjoyed most were spending time with his family and friends, walking, and working in his yard. He was the person who “took care of everything” and was a great father, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Miller, and his sister, Christa Hughes and her husband Jim. Survivors include his former wife and life-long companion, Shirley Hammond Miller, a resident of Julie Blair Nursing Home in Albany; his son, Thomas Miller of Schuylerville; his daughter, Crystal Evitts and her husband Brian of Kittrell, NC; his brother, Joseph Miller and his wife Theresa of Saratoga Springs; his sister Siana Lyons and her husband Thomas of Delran, NJ; sister-in-law Linda Miller of Latham; 4 grandchildren, Carissa and Tommy Miller and Erica and Kelsey Evitts; several nieces and nephews and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave., Schuylerville, with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Schuylerville. Relatives and friends may call from 11am-1pm Wednesday prior to the service. A special thanks is extended to Hospice for their professionalism and personal attention through Tom’s illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tom’s name may be made to Mary’s Haven, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
