Obituary of Robert W. Swartwout

Robert W. Swartwout, 83, a resident of County Road 68, Town of Saratoga, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born January 5, 1928 in Schuylerville, he was the son of William and Florence (Proper) Swartwout. Bob had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Saratoga Highway Department for many years and had been caretaker for the Town landfill. For 30 years he was employed by Larmon House Movers in Schuylerville. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and was a retired member of the Quaker Springs Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, John O’Reilly, and two sisters, Mary Ellen Welmaker and Marilyn Lawrence. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Cecilia (Vincek) Swartwout of Saratoga Springs; 2 sons, Robert G. (Diane) Swartwout and Gary M. (Donna) Swartwout of Schuylerville; 1 daughter, Kathryn A. (Daniel) Svoboda of Saratoga Springs; 2 brothers, William O’Reilly of Porters Corners, and Thomas O’Reilly of South Glens Falls; 1 brother-in-law, Frank Max of Saratoga Springs; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11am Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Flynn Bros., Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave. Schuylerville with the Rev. Martin Fisher, pastor of Notre Dame-Visitation Church officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Schuylerville. Friends may call on Friday at the funeral home from 4 to7 pm. The family suggests memorials in his name be made to the Quaker Springs Fire Department.
