Obituary of George H. Dawley Jr.

George H. Dawley Jr. of Greenwich, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Washington Center in Argyle, NY.

 

Born August 26, 1924 he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Ferguson Dawley Sr.

 

George proudly served in the US Army during World War II and was at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France with the Amphibious Engineers, Fifth Brigade, First Division, First Army.  He worked in building construction and did machine repairs until his retirement.

 

He will be sadly missed by his many friends and acquaintances.

 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Kenneth, Mildred (Mrs. James McNeil), Elizabeth (Mrs. Merritt Bell Sr.), Bertha, Phyllis, and Fannie Dawley.

 

Survivors include his nephews, Meredith McNeil, Merritt Bell Jr., Darwin Bell, and Harold Bell.

 

A graveside service will be held at 1pm Thursday, May 31, 2018  in the Greenwich Cemetery, with Rev. Sandra Spaulding, officiating.

 

There are no calling hours.

 

Memorials can be made in his memory to the Bottskill Baptist Church or the Greenwich VFW.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Washington Center for the fine care George received while a resident there.
