Obituary of Ronald G. McPhail

Ronald G. McPhail, 79, of Greenwich, New York, rode his final patrol on May 25, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was born September 1,1938 to the late William and Edna Sinclair McPhail.

 

Ron was a Marine Sergeant who served during the Cold War in 1955.  Upon discharge from the Marine Corps he was a Deputy Sheriff with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office prior to entering the Division of the New York State Police on June 18, 1962.  He retired as a Zone Sergeant in Troop G in 1986 and previously served with Troop K as a Motorcycle Trooper.  After his career with the State Police he worked as the security manager for ABF in the Northeast Region from 1986-2001.  Growing up on Long Island and later living on the Hudson River, being by the water was always near and dear to his heart.  He was a member of the Greenwich Elks Club and was known for his pristine lawn and car.  He loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

 

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William McPhail.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Miller McPhail of Greenwich; daughter April (Jim) Douglas of Clifton Park; sons Todd (Amy) McPhail and Kyle (Karen) McPhail of Greenwich; grandchildren, Connor, Kyle and Megan Douglas, Derek and Aidan McPhail; brother, David McPhail; several nieces and nephews; his favorite canine buddy Bailey

 

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the Greenwich Elks Club immediately following the interment.

 

Family and friends may call from 4-7 on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834.

 

In lieu of flowers donations in Ron’s name may be made to Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY, 12866, The Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, or a charity of one’s choice.
