Obituary of John Meredith Carter Jr.

John Meredith Carter, Jr. (Jack) went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2018.  He was well cared for at the Saratoga Community Hospice with many family members praying with him throughout his short illness.

He was born March 21, 1921 in Hayden, Arizona. As a child he lived in Tacoma, Washington, later moving with his family to settle in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He lived a wonderful life. He was married to the love of his life, Esther May Ross for 67 years until her passing in 2010.  Together they raised their three children in Easton, New York and were members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Jack served with distinction in the United State Marine Corps during World War II.

He was President of C. W. Hughes Company in Mechanicville, New York. He later worked as a manufacturer’s representative until his retirement.

He was interested in many outdoor activities, including founding The Easton Rangers 4-H club, The Easton Wranglers Riding Association, golf, and fishing. He was a talented craftsman, building grandfather clocks and furniture for his family.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, sisters, and daughter, Shirley Carter Gibbons.

Jack is survived by his son, John M. Carter III (Elizabeth) of Easton, and daughter Susan Carter Cronin of Greenwich.  “Granddad” is survived by six grandchildren, Kate Cronin Jordan, Robin Cronin Clark, Edward J. Gibbons, John M. Carter IV, Heather Carter Barrett and Joshua M. Carter.  He also is survived by many great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

Calling hours will be held at Flynn Brothers Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 on Thursday, May 31 from 5 – 7 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1 at 9:30am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenwich, New York with the Rev. Joe Carron officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871
