Obituary of Marion S. Nichols

Marion Evelyn Stewart Nichols, 97, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on   July 4, 2018 at The Wesley Health Care Center.

 

Marion was born in Jefferson, NY, on September 27,1920 to the late Delmar Stewart and Jeanette Reed Stewart.  She graduated from Jefferson Central School in 1938.  Marion worked on the family dairy farm in North Harpersfield along with her husband of 60 years, Leland.  They also produced maple products, and in the early years grew acres of cauliflower, which was shipped to NY City.  She was collector of taxes for the Jefferson Central School District for many years. After retiring from the farm, she worked at the Red Carpet in Stamford.  She was a member of Colonel Harper Grange in Harpersfield, a lifetime member of the National Grange and a member of the North Harpersfield Methodist Church.  After retirement she moved to Fort Pierce, FL, before moving to Saratoga Springs. She volunteered in the Cafe at Embury and the Gift Shop in the Wesley Health Care Center.                                                                                                                                                                          

 

Marion enjoyed quilting, playing cards, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. 

 

Marion is survived by her children, Stewart (Sheryl) Nichols of Ridgeville, SC, Ronald (Donna) Nichols of Boiling Springs, PA, Norma  (Richard) Moy of Halfmoon, Nancy (Fred) Sidoti of Waterbury, CT; 10 grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her niece, Mabel Totten Faoro.

 

 She was predeceased by her husband, Leland Ernest Nichols; her sister, Anna Stewart Totten; and her nephew, Paul Totten.

                                                                                                                                                                           

Services for Marion will be held at the convenience of her family.  

 

To honor Marion’s memory, the family requests donations in her name to The Wesley Foundation, Neil Roberts Staff Enrichment Fund, 156 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. 

  

 The family wishes to thank The Wesley Health Care Center staff, especially Springs 3 for their care and support.
