I never thought of expressing my thoughts like this until recently when another person in my life died. It's been over three years since Hope died and I was thinking of her. We were friends for nearly 30 years and shared a passion for writing. That's how we met, by accident, when I wrote a story and she wrote a story about the Underground Railroad for the Post-Star. The editor combined our stories, maybe intentionally without telling us because my story covered Warren County and hers covered Washington County. Somehow they put our story as the headline story on the front page of the Sunday paper. It led to us being invited to speak at the Chapman Museum, but we didn't even know each other at the time. So, that was how our friendship began.
We did quite a lot together, concerts, dinners, nights out here and there, sometimes with Eve and other family members. I eventually moved out of the area but we stayed in touch and talked on the phone regularly about our writing. I recall when her Aunt died how upset she became. But she came through and then met Joe Morgan. I never did meet him; I was in Ohio by then. I think the last time I saw her was when I did a presentation at the bookstore in Saratoga. He was supposed to come but didn't make it. She was a warm person and had a sweet manner, and a good friend. I can still hear her voice.

I still find it hard to believe that we have lost Hope; and I miss her very much. On July 20th, I left voice mail for Hope, at home and at work. I wanted to schedule a lunch. It had been too long since we got together to update each other on our joys and concerns. Hope was a good friend and colleague at SUNY-Empire State College.
Bill and I are keeping Joe, Claire, Eve, and all of Hopes family and friends in our thoughts and prayers. May you find comfort in your memories of Hope and in knowing you have friends who care.
In Loving Memory,
MaryNell Morgan and Bill Brown

Hope & I were neighbors (sort of); she lived in Argyle & we live in Greenwich. We'd helped each other out in carpooling from time to time; especially during my eye disability in 2011-2012. She proved to be a distant cousin with my husband's family; which he was pleasantly surprised to find out. My family prayers & thoughts are forever with her sisters, Eve, Claire, & their families; as well as cousins.

I got to know Hope quite well, she was a wonderful colleague at Empire State College. She helped me tremendously through her work in Media Relations. We read each other's writing and she was always so supportive of my work, something I appreciated greatly. I also greatly enjoyed reading her insightful work as well. I will miss her greatly. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Hope's beautiful kindness as a good neighbor lives on in memory. I grew up as neighbor next to Hope's home, had worked in her house at her prior neighbors as a caterer and swam and ice skated on the pond with many fond memories. My mother sometimes watched her pets. She always spoke fondly of Hope, said she was beautiful and intelligent. Hope was a kind, caring, supportive, good neighbor to my mother for which I will always be thankful. Condolences to the family. So very sorry for your loss.

My condolence, sympathy and prayer to the Ferguson Family, Eve and Clare.
It is with shock and profound sadness when I heard the passing away of Hope through Greg Ewing. It was only just a few weeks ago that Greg and I reminisced at our days and time at Oberlin and Hope came up in the discussion.
Hope's loss has caused a fissure and heartsick melancholy within our community of friends.
Hope was elegant, vivacious, well-spoken, kind and high spirit.
I find solace in the fact that it is God, the Almighty that placed us here on Earth and it is also God that calls us back.

I've known Hope for many years through church. I'll miss her beautiful smile, good humor, sense of fashion and quick mind! She was lovely and loved, and I'm thankful for many long conversations about faith and issues of the day. I'm also thankful that her faith is now sight and her hope has been rewarded in heaven - we will meet again! My condolences and prayers to her family

I’ll always remember lunches with Hope at her home In Argyle. We would usually have baked chicken seasoned with cilantro and a salad or veggie. We tried to eat healthy. Or we’d meet for lunch in Salem. Our friendship developed over these lunches and the time spent together getting to know each other. We would talk, listen, encourage one another, laugh, cry, share secrets and pray together. Hope came to my classroom and did a writing project once with the students(upper elementary age). She was great! As time moved on: Hope got a full-time job, I had children and meeting for lunch became more difficult. But the relationship built in those early years knit our hearts together. Hope with her endearing smile, beautiful eyes, wonderful laugh and warm heart will be missed. My condolences to her husband and family.
