Colleen Mason

Obituary of Colleen H. Mason

Colleen Rose Hart (Herbst) Mason has left to tend to the magnificent gardens above, singing to music that will never end. She passed away at home on October 10, 2018 holding hands with her loved ones.

Colleen was born in 1938 in the Detroit suburbs where she lived until her high school graduation.  She moved to New Jersey with her family, married and raised her children there until making Greenwich her home 40 years ago.  Colleen embraced her community.  She loved being a part of Breakfast with Santa, the Holiday House Tours, the Garden Tours as well as helping with FFA projects and creating the village gardens to be enjoyed by all.  She thrived on entertaining and sharing her baked goods with friends.  Music was in her soul at an early age and you would often find her enjoying local concerts as well as supporting any function expanding passion for the arts.

She was known as Mom, Nana, Colleen, Rosie, Coll and Aunt Connie. Her family who will forever cherish her zest for life include daughter Pam (Brian) Kendrick, son Scott Herbst, and son Jerry (Sandra) Herbst.  She adored her grandchildren Bryan (Nina) Herbst, Kelly Herbst, Gavan Fawcett, Hannah (Ralph) Strong, Nicole Herbst, Morgan Herbst, Christopher Herbst, and Morgan Kendrick; and great grandchildren:  Tyler, Caden, Ella and Tessa Herbst, Emma and Jaxson Fawcett, Brennan, Logan and Justin Strong, and Liam Freeburn.  Colleen’s sister Judy Hart Angelo was her other half while her nephews Jack (Hillary) and Jesse (Rebecca) and niece Kate (Francios) were loved as is if they were her own children.

Her extended family through marriage and lifelong friendships were cherished by her and always remained a valued part of her life.

The family is forever grateful for the love and care provided by her wonderful caregivers over the last eight years:  Marilyn, Norma, Krista, Lisa, Susan, Rhonda, Debbie, Jim, Tina, Lynda, Betty, Sharon, and Jamie.

There will be Celebration of Colleen’s Life on Saturday, October 20th at 1:00 PM at The United Church of Greenwich 37 Salem St. (Rt.29) Greenwich NY.
