Obituary of Catherine T. Burgess

Catherine T. “Kitty” Burgess, 93, a resident of Hill St., passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 29, 2018.

Born September 22, 1925 in County Tipperary, Ireland she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Fahey Coman.

Kitty was educated in Ireland’s National School System and moved to the United States in 1961.  She fell in love at first sight with her late husband, Lorman Burgess.  She enjoyed visiting relatives, taking rides around the countryside, visits to Ireland, spending time with grandchildren and her dog, Princess, and a good cup of hot tea.  She had a strong faith and loved her rosary, that was never far from her hands.  She had a great sense of humor and will be missed dearly.

Kitty was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich and had ironed the church linens for many years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Lorman Burgess, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, William and Dennis Coman; 1 sister, Annie Coman; and 1 stepdaughter, Gail Gille.

Survivors include 1 sister, Sister Mary Kathleen PBVM of Colonie; 1 stepdaughter, Sister Augusta Ann Burgess CSJ of Greenwich; 5 grandchildren, Barney (Tina) Gille, Scott Gille, Carrie Lynn (Jon) Larson, John (Sue) Gille, and Donna Jean Gille; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 5-7pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich.

Memorials can be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Church, 36 Bleecker St., Greenwich, NY 12834 or Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
