Obituary of Genevieve E. McLean

Genevieve E. McLean, formerly of Rugg Rd., Schuylerville, passed away peacefully May 8, 2019 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born January 1, 1931 in Schenectady, NY she was the daughter of the late C. Lester and Helen (Emerson) Merchant.

She grew up on her grandfather’s farm on Devil’s Lane in Ballston Spa and worked just as hard as any farm hands.  After graduation from Ballston Spa High School she worked at USDA Office of Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Services retiring in 1989 after 32 years of service.

She married W. Donald McLean on December 16, 1961 in Gansevoort, NY. Together they built their home on Rugg Road.  Her husband passed away June 19, 1972 and Gen remained in her home until 2012.

Gen was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, vacationing in Maine and working outside in her yard and flower gardens.  For many years she hosted the family New Year’s Day Dinner which was also on her birthday.  She loved attending family get togethers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Eugene S. Merchant, Ralph W. Emerson, and Charles L. Merchant.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Elizabeth A. Bennett; brother, Donald J. Merchant; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

At Gen’s request, there will be no calling hours and interment will be private at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Saratoga Hospital, DCI Rubin Center, and the Home of the Good Shephard in Wilton for the excellent care Gen received over the years.
