Joan Weir

Obituary of Joan Ann Weir

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Ann Weir announce her unexpected passing at the age of 83. She went to be with her loving husband Charles who was waiting with open arms in heaven.

Joan and Charles made their home in Greenwich, NY where they spent 61 wonderful years together and raised their 3 loving children, Kevin (Terry) Weir of Salem, Darlene (Gary) Gendron of Lake Luzerne and Christopher Weir of Greenwich.

They also leave behind 3 grandchildren Carrie Young, Jonathan (Sara) Boyce, Brad (Holly) Weir and adopted grandson John Gregg.  The family grew larger and they were blessed with 7 great-grandchildren, Kendal Young, Olivia Young, Lainey, Kailey and Hannah Boyce, Rowan and Charleigh Willow.

Joan was predeceased by her parents John and Florence Kelly of Greenwich; her twin brother James, Eugene, Gerald, Robert; sister Marie Salley; best friend who she loved like a sister Pat Duchaine.

In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she is survived by her sisters Mary Lois Adamson, Betty Caruthers, and Catherine Bain; brothers Richard and William; several nieces and nephews.

In Mom’s younger years she worked at the local dress Factory and Golden Fleece Papermill, after her children were grown, she went on to work at the Greenwich Kmart for many years but mostly she enjoyed staying home to raise her family.  Mom was known for her great love of baking and cooking and could whip up the best pie crust without measuring a thing.  Many family memories are around the kitchen table watching her bake and cook.  Mom also loved to crochet and give her beautiful creations as gifts.  She loved to collect Angel figurines, visit local casinos, watch golf on TV and was the Yankees #1 fan.  Her greatest joy of all was having her children, and grandchildren all together for family gatherings.

Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma we will miss you dearly and our lives will be forever changed without you here, we find great comfort in knowing that you and Dad are together again watching down on us always and we will keep your memories tucked close to our hearts.

A funeral service will be held in honor of Mom at 1:30pm Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 with the Rev. Martin Fisher officiating.  Burial with her husband Charles will take place at 2:30pm in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery following the service.  A reception will take place at the Greenwich VFW following her burial.
