Obituary of Lee Cormie

Lee Cormie, 69, a resident of Queensbury, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his family and friends. Born January 26, 1951 in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Mary “Rody” MacDougall Cormie Sr. Lee earned his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oneonta, his Master’s degree from SUNY Albany, and went on to teach English for 32 years at Hudson Falls Middle School, retiring in 2006. He built a lake house and enjoyed spending time in Newcomb with his family. He also was on the board of directors for their lake’s association for several years as Vice President. Lee loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, skeet shooting and golfing. He was a member of the Hudson Falls Fish & Game Club. Very close with his family and friends, Lee was known for his generous spirit, dependability, and his warm and abundant sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his niece, Carrie Scott Ortiz. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Katharine Clarey Cormie and his 2 daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Cormie and Meghan Katharine Cormie all of Queensbury; 4 sisters: Karen (Michael) O’Rourke of Clifton Park, Vickie (Peter) Healy of Victory Mills, Michele (George) McHarg of Stillwater, and Sally (Paul) Boivin of Schuylerville; his father-in-law, Ret. Lt. Col Bradford Clarey of Brewster, MA; brother-in-law, Bruce Stevens of Sacramento, CA; 3 sisters-in-law: Belinda Clarey Eyestone (Jeff) of Brewster, MA, Lisa Clarey-Lawler (Bruce) of Nantucket, MA, and Melanie Clarey Safreed (Gary) of St. Augustine, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, a great niece, several great nephews; his dog Stella, and granddog Ziva. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from 2-4pm at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 13 Gates Ave. Ext., Schuylerville, NY 12871. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 415 Crossways Park Drive, Suite D, Woodbury, NY 11797.
